BREAST UPLIFT (MASTOPEXY) Breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure used to raise and help re contour sagging breasts. This procedure is usually performed to tighten loose, sagging breasts having lost volume and elasticity following childbirth or after significant weight loss. During the procedure, Dr. Apesos will make incisions following the natural contour of the breast, removing a ring of tissue around the nipple. In cases of more sagging, he additionally removes a "keyhole-shaped" pattern of skin below the nipple to also eliminate the extra skin tissue from the lower section of the breast. The breast, nipple, and areola are moved to a higher preselected position to reshape the breast. Sutures close the incisions. Combinations of both lifting procedures and breast implants are often necessary to obtain the best final shape. Complications can include the problems associated with breast implants with the additional problems of scarring. Usually, within a week following surgery, dressings and all sutures are removed and replaced with tape and a soft bra. Dr. Apesos will advise you to wear the bra for several weeks.
