Nose surgery or rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to reshape the inner and outer structures of the nose. It is used to correct birth defects and disfigurement Deformities acquired from injury and those deformities that create nasal obstruction and make breathing difficult could be corrected by surgery.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty is performed to make the outer appearance of the nose more attractive. Typically, the procedure involves removing a nasal hump, elevating the tip of the nose, narrowing or shortening the nose, or reducing the size of the nostrils. Modern techniques focus on creating a very natural looking nose with closer attention to facial structure and proportion.

Rhinoplasties are performed as outpatient procedures under local or general anesthesia. All work, with the exception of nostril reduction, is done through the inside of the nose so there are no visible scars. In our office following surgery, the nose is casted in plaster for about ten days. Eyes may be black and blue during that time. Nasal swelling will gradually reduce over a month or two, and most people return to work and perform light activities as soon as the bandages are removed.
