RECONSTRUCTIVE NASAL SURGERY
- before/after photos - set 1
Reconstructive nasal surgery or reconstructive rhinoplasty is performed to correct birth defects or disfigurement resulting from injury. It may also be done in conjunction with an operation to correct nasal obstruction due to an internal deformity. If the nasal septum or partition inside the nose needs correction to improve breathing, the operation is called a septorhinoplasty. Cosmetic nasal surgery can be done in conjunction with reconstructive nasal surgery. If this is the case in your situation, the reconstructive surgery will usually be done first. Surgery is done on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia. Reconstructive nasal surgery can be simple or complex depending on the reconstruction taking place. However, it should be noted that, while cosmetic surgery is commonly done along with reconstructive surgery, there is a somewhat higher risk of complications when these two operations are done simultaneously.
Note: While cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance, reconstructive plastic surgery is commonly covered by medical insurance. Often the appropriate letters are required to be written with additional second opinions and tests to prove the medical necessity of the reconstruction proposed.
