How do I start?
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS: When considering genital cosmetic or enhancement surgery such as the vaginoplasty you should seek out a qualified experienced surgeon to perform the procedure. The doctor will ask questions about childbirths, episiotomy repair, sexual satisfaction, your partner’s role and expectations in the problem and of course your expectations. Are there physical symptoms such as pain, urinary incontinence, itching, and irritation? Does tissue laxity effect your achieving orgasm and what is your gynecologist’s opinion.
Where will the surgery be performed?
Reduction of labia majora tissue (the outer lips around the labia minora) is usually performed in an office facility but a surgicenter and hospital are available. Since such body functionality is not considered to be for a medically impaired problem these procedures are thought of as cosmetic in nature; therefore such surgery is not covered through medical insurance plans.
The procedures seldom take more than an hour and a half. This depends upon the amount of improvement work required.
Will this reduction be painful?
You will feel some mild discomfort. Swelling occurs for the first few days. Analgesic medication reduces discomfort and applying cool compresses, may be very helpful.
How fast will I recover?
The best advice is to first and foremost follow all postoperative instructions. Adhering to the instructions you will be given can reduce the healing process. During recovery no sexual penetration of the vagina is allowed for the first six weeks. Most patients return to work in 2-3 days, but they avoid heavy lifting and any sports or dancing involving a lot of movement. Specifically avoid horseback riding; do not use bicycles, and do no riding on motorcycles either.
Are there long-term effects after labia majora reductions?
This reduction may not be permanent. There is a chance the tissue can stretch and will change again following childbirth or weight gain.
Tell me the risks and limitations of this reduction?
Specifically, risks for reduction of the labia majora may include painful intercourse and less than expected results. Small changes in sensation during sex are very rare. All forms of surgery carry some degree of risk for complications, including scarring, wound separation, and infection. Be aware that most patients report no such issues. Discuss risks with us prior to surgery. You want to know, so ask.
What is the typical cost of a reducing the large labia?
The cost is $3,500 for this procedure covering the surgeon’s fee and including other costs such as the facility fee and the anesthesia. This procedure may be combined with other genital procedures at reduced rates.
