Breast uplift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure designed to raise and help reshape sagging breasts. This procedure is usually performed to tighten loose, sagging breasts having lost volume and elasticity following childbirth or after significant weight loss. During the procedure, Dr. Apesos will make incisions following the natural contour of the breast, removing a ring of tissue around the nipple. In cases of more sagging, he additionally removes a "keyhole-shaped" pattern of skin below the nipple to also eliminate the extra skin tissue from the lower section of the breast. The breast, nipple, and areola are moved to a higher preselected position to reshape the breast. Hidden sutures beneath the skin will close the incisions.
Combinations of both breast lifting procedures with breast implants are often necessary to obtain the best final shape. Although some surgeons feel uncomfortable with the combined lift and implant surgery Dr Apesos routinely will perform both a lift of the breast tissue and place submuscular implants to shape the breasts both in one procedure. The pictures on our website labeled “lift with moderate sized implants” were all done in one procedure. Dr Apesos will keep the scar length to a minimum. Complications can include the problems associated with breast implants with the additional problems of scarring. To limit any scarring and promote healing Dr Apesos will have you treat the incisions with tape for six months to prevent scar growth.
Usually, within a week following surgery, dressings are removed and replaced with tape and a soft bra. Dr. Apesos will advise you to wear the bra for several weeks. For more information on a breast lift, contact our office.
