How do I start?

THE MOST IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION for those considering genital surgery should be to seek out a qualified plastic surgeon or gynecologist who is suitably trained. First, a qualified surgeon is a one who is credentialed at a reputable hospital. Dr Apesos has gone through this fundamental credentialing process and is on the staff of several large local hospitals as a plastic surgeon, plus he is a full Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Wright State University School of Medical. Such credentials involving a peer review process places the doctor at the properly qualified level.

Second, you should make an appointment to have a consultation with the doctor. On your first visit to the practice you will fill out questionnaires regarding your medical
history. Your personal medical history is of vital importance to an understanding of the total care you will need as a patient.

In consultation your specific wishes will be evaluated. Some of the questions may be very personal. This is your chance speak up about your concerns and expectations. In other words just what is bothering you and what is expected? Topics will be covered which you probably will never discuss with anyone else.

Specifically the question as to why you want the vaginal rejuvenation performed is very important. Are there physical symptoms such as pain, itching, irritation? Have you had a difficult vaginal delivery? Have you had large babies? Is there decreased sexual stimulation?
Will the vaginal rejuvenation be painful?

You will feel some discomfort, usually this is mild. Swelling occurs for the first few days. We will prescribe medication which reduces discomfort, also applying cool compresses can be very helpful.
Where will the surgery actually be performed?

Primarily because of financial reasons vaginal rejuvenation is performed in our office facility and not at a hospital. Since body functionality is not considered to be impaired these new genital procedures are generally thought of as cosmetic in nature; therefore such work is not covered through most medical insurance plans.
The procedure seldom takes more than 90 minutes. This will all depend upon the amount of improvement required.
How fast will I recover?

Our best advice is to first and foremost follow the pre and post operative instructions. The healing process can be reduced by adhering to the strict instructions given. For the first six weeks following surgery we insist there be no sexual penetration of the vaginal canal. With permission you may be allowed to very carefully use tampons or even perform douches during the recovery stage. Most patients return to work in 2-3 days, but avoidance of heavy lifting and any sports or dancing involving a lot of movement is avoided. Specifically you must not do any horse back riding, not use bicycles stationary or on the road, and no riding on motorcycles.
Are there long-term effects after vaginal rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is permanent. There is a very little chance the vagina will ever enlarge unless you have a very large baby, twins, or a traumatic childbirth.
Tell me the risks and limitations of vaginal rejuvenation?

Rarely a very tight vaginal canal may require periodic stretching. Small changes in sensation during sex are very rare. All forms of surgery carry some degree of risk and complications, including scarring, wound separation, and infection may occur. Be aware most patients report no such issues. Please discuss risks with us prior to surgery.
